It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Board Member and friend Ron Breznicky. Ron was with us from the very beginning, and his intelligence, thoughtfulness and sense of humor will be sorely missed. He was totally dedicated to our mission, and his guidance helped shape our success. Our prayers go out to his wife Linda, sons Eric (Board Member), Matt and daughters Kristy and Katie and all of the extended family and grandchildren.

From our TOFAC Board President Fred Kane:

‘I met Ron in 2003 when I moved down here from NY. A mutual friend from church introduced us, and our wives are both RN’s and Ron’s wife Linda helped Dianne in getting a position at Georgetown Hospital System. Our children were fairly close in age, so we had a lot in common and became friendly with the entire family. We played some golf together, smoked a few cigars together. In 2007-2008 my sons were both deployed to Iraq at the same time, and I decided to do something for our service people, as a diversion from constantly worrying about what my sons were involved in on a minute to minute basis. Both were infantry officers and both lost colleagues. When a 19 year old in my sons platoon was killed, I reached a tipping point and knew I had to do something. I knew Ron would help, his dad was a WW2 vet, and a son in law was an active duty Marine who was deployed also. I called him about starting a golf tournament to raise money for Wounded Warrior Project which, at the time was a relatively small organization, but I liked their mission. I called several other friends who also had either served or had connections to people serving and we decided to start a 501C3 Charity in 2009 and held our first tournament.

Like any organization we had our share of turbulent times and growing pains. Ron and I shared a vision of growth and maximizing our contributions to Wounded Warrior Project. I depended on Ron for advice and his thoughtfulness, his intelligence and his sense of humor contributed greatly to our success. Since we started, we have donated $100,00 to Wounded Warrior Project and collected over $100,000 in golf equipment for use in Wounded Warrior Project Golf Clinics.

Ron coordinated our volunteers every year, and in his honor we are establishing an annual award in his name to be given to our “Volunteer of The Year”.

Ron will be sorely missed. We thank his family for sharing him with us and our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this time.”

New TOFAC Board Member: Meet Bill Ruhle

Bill left the New York City area in 2006 to enjoy Pawleys Island with his wife, Carol. They have two children, Jennifer and Charles, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy, who all still live in New York. Liam, his 6-month-old grandson, is the latest addition to the family.

Bill spent 35 years in various technology management roles for major New York companies. He started as a programmer at Readers Digest (where he met Carol) but quickly realized that managing was more important to him than the technology. He moved into management and eventually led several technology departments at American Can and Citigroup. His role at Citigroup was global and provided the opportunity to work with individuals from many different cultures. One of the most enjoyable experiences was managing a department with several domestic locations and a department in London. His latest role at Citigroup was as a Senior Vice President managing the technology department for a leasing company with $15 billion worth of assets under management.

He enjoys spending time at the ocean, golfing, reading, gardening, visiting family and friends, sampling the local cuisine, and trying to stay in shape.

Bill spent six years in the Army National Guard, and now wants to help support those who have made much greater sacrifices for their country.

We are glad to Have Bill on board as our newest Tee Off Fore A Cause Board member.

Bill can be reached via email at: theruhles@yahoo.com

The 5th Annual Tee Off Fore A Cause charity golf tournament will be held at The Reserve Club of Pawleys Island, SC on Monday, Sept. 16.

The day will start off with a Skills Challenge, Registration and Opening Ceremony. Registration and Skills Challenge will open at 9:15 AM. Our Skills Challenge is a blast, with a glass break, putting contest and chipping contest! If we can get someone to set up an inner tube target in one of the ponds (alligator alert!) we may offer that as well. We will be hosting an awards ceremony and cocktail party/casual dinner. We are in the process of lining up some local musicians to join us as well!

This year we will be joined again by a contingent of Wounded Warrior Project Alumni so it will be a very special day of golf and good times in support of Wounded Warrior Project.

The Reserve Golf Club, designed by Greg Norman and one of eight exclusive, private clubs in the Carolinas owned by McConnell Golf, LLC, is a challenging and fun test of golf. It is one of very few private clubs in the Myrtle Beach area, and its service is world-class! There are many lodging accommodations and restaurants in the immediate area, and the Club is only minutes from the beach.

We are sold out of player spots except for eligible sponsors and warriors and we are accepting reservations for players on a waiting list. Feel free to contact Fred Kane at 843-333-3974 or via email at fred@teeoffforeacause.org.

CLUBS FORE HEROES!

WBTW News 13′s Rusty Ray came to talk to us about our Clubs Fore Heroes Project in December 2011. The segment was featured on his ‘Positively Carolina’ Series on the 6 PM News Cast here in the Greater Myrtle Beach area.

Golf plays a part in the rehab process for some of our returning wounded warriors. Joe Caley of Wounded Warrior Project and I were speaking about the need for equipment for our soldiers. Between Ft. Benning and Ft. Gordon there are about 1000 wounded troops rehabbing on any given day. Joe helps put on golf clinics for the soldiers, and Joe knows the value of golf as therapy. Golf played a key role in Joe’s rehab after he was severely wounded in Iraq. Joe is now retired from the Army, but that has not stopped Joe from continuing to help his fellow soldiers, sailors and airmen.

The real catalyst for this effort to gather clubs was a phone call I got from Bob Rankin and Bridget Zuri of the PGA Superstore (http://shop.pgatoursuperstore.com) in North Myrtle Beach. They have been asked by customers what to do with their equipment if they don’t trade it in, and Bob and Bridget reached out to me. That 15 minute meeting and my conversation with Joe set the ball rolling (bad pun).

Bottom line is the need for equipment to use at the clinics. There is not enough to go around, and some equipment has to be modified to suit a particular golfer’s needs. So, if you have any equipment you have gathering dust (as a golfer, I know you do), you can ‘pay it forward’ and make a real difference in a wounded warrior’s life. Come on, you’ll never use those half dozen putters stuck in the corner, you couldn’t sink a putt with them. That’s why they’re dusty!…So give me a call or email me and we can make arrangements to liberate them from darkness and let them play a little in the sun again in the hands of one of our heroes.

leader. His professional career began immediately following his undergraduate education, at the New York Telephone Company, which subsequently became NYNEX Corporation. In his almost 28 years there, his experiences took him through assignments in a wide variety of technical and customer
service operations, sales, marketing, finance and accounting and regulatory
departments.

He was the Executive Vice President of NYNEX Business
Information Systems Company and, in that role, the senior executive in charge
Chief Operating Officer of NYNEX Mobile
Communications, the corporation’s wireless services affiliate which eventually
became one of the cornerstone companies now comprising Verizon Wireless. He was Vice President of Strategy and
Planning for NYNEX Worldwide Communications Services, overseeing the planning
and operations of several software application development companies based both
in the U.S. and abroad. His final assignment before
retiring from NYNEX at age 48 was as Group Vice President-Manhattan, responsible for all landline
telecommunications operations serving that territory.

Mike went on to become President-Inmar Enterprises
Following three years in that role, he re-entered the telecommunications
industry as President and Chief Executive Officer of RSL Communications, U.S.A.,
the domestic affiliate of RSL Communications, Ltd., which established and

In 2004 Mike began to perform business consulting
services for Bridgehead Partners based in NYC, focused upon investment target
companies in the telecommunications sector.
In that same year, he led the organization of a very large charity
fundraising effort in his home territory and successfully ran a golf tournament
for a local animal shelter. In late
2004, Mike led the organizing effort to purchase from its original owner and
developer the exclusive private golf club (The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys
Island) of which he has been an active member since early 1999, and then
oversaw it as its President from February 2006, when the members purchased the
Club, until it was later resold to McConnell Golf, LLC in March 2010. He remains an active Club member and sits on
McConnell Golf’s Advisory Committee assisting in the leadership of the Club’s
activities. During that same timeframe,
Mike also served for two years on the Board of Directors of his local community
